BISHOPTON BIG GARDEN BIRDWATCH 24-26 JANUARY – ALL WELCOME!

Last January 32 of our Church members took part in the RSPB’s annual Big Garden Birdwatch  and  the Chit Chat group in particular was very actively involved .The Birdwatch is the world’s largest and longest running bird survey and last year 590,000 people across the UK took part and provided a hugely valuable insight into how  our garden birds are faring.

It’s very simple to take part, all you need do is set aside an hour over the weekend 23-25 January and count the birds in your garden from the warmth of your home. Do it on your own or with family and friends and have a coffee and biscuit while you count,
Thanks to the data provided last year, we were able to compile a Top 10 of  the most common Bishopton Birds and this is set out below (the figure in brackets is the comparable position from 2024 so you can see the winners and losers) The plan is to do the same this year and it would be great to get even more participants from both Chit- Chat Group and the Church as a whole. I’m delighted to say that the Girls’ Brigade is also going to participate this year. If you would like to help the birds and have some fun at the same time you can get the survey form at Chit-Chat meetings on 22nd January , or from Gill McHattie ,Tony Baker or Ruby at the Cornerstone office . Alternatively you can get it from the RSPB (google RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch and they’ll email you an information pack you can print off). After the count it would be much appreciated if you could please return your survey form to either Gill, Tony or Ruby, and as well as returning to RSPB, we will crunch the data and come up with Bishopton’s Top Ten 2026. Watch this space and fingers crossed for less stormy weather than last year!

Renfrewshire Foodbank

As the demand for the Foodbank in Renfrewshire continues to remain high, our Church is pleased to offer support by welcoming donations at The Cornerstone or at the Church service on Sundays.

There is always a need for tinned foods, meat, fish, soup, vegetables, pasta sauce, as well as cereals, biscuits, long life milk, diluting juice. Donations of toiletries, particularly shampoo, shower and shaving items, pet food and chocolate/sweets/crisps are also very much appreciated.

As usual donations can be dropped off at the Church on Sunday or at The Cornerstone when it is open for Chit Chat, Coffee Stop or Services.
